Blogging through the Alphabet – Q January 8, 2014

I’m back!! After falling off the blogging wagon I’m back at it ๐Ÿ™‚ so here is me picking up where I left off ๐Ÿ™‚

Q is for Questioning God

Do you ever have those moments when you wonder “why me?” Or “why haven’t you answered my prayers?” Or even “why on earth am I here?”

I have had those moments and the only thing I can do is look back at how God has provided for me and how his plans have worked out so much better then the plans I made for myself. You know everyone loves to use the verse in Jeremiah as a good one when you are questioning God because he says “For I know the plans I have for you declares, The Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” And I like that verse but there are a few others that make me think about why I am questioning God like when I read, “Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, The days fashioned for me, When as yet there were none of them.” (Psalms 139:16). It’s all in his book so why do I think I know better then Him. It’s like when my 3 year old tells me he is going to run around the house with his socks on (we have marble floors in our house which make for good occasions to slip and fall flat on your face) and I tell him that he shouldn’t do that because I know more then he does about socks on marble floors and slipping.

Or what about when Jesus said: Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Fatherโ€™s will. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows. (Matthew 10:29-31)
You know after having both my sons my hair fell out and in like big clumps and so much that I thought I might have a bald spot but even with all of that going on God knows the exact number of hairs on my head…have you ever tried to count the strands of hair on your head? I tried once when I was a kid and I remember giving up not too far into it because I knew I could never get an exact count but if God knows the exact number of hairs on my head don’t you think I could get it through my head that I don’t need to question God.

This the God who created everything and I’m going to sit here and say “man God I can’t believe you didn’t do this for me” really! Please don’t get me wrong I’m not trying to judge you I’m just putting my feelings down. I wonder at the way my son talks to me sometimes so defiant and demanding, I wonder if that’s how we sound to God? Or maybe like when my son asks me why about everything under the sun. Do I sound like that broken record saying why, why, why all the time instead of saying you know what God I trust you to do what’s best for me even if it is painful or challenging or even frustrating.

One of my most favorite verses that I turn to is “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. (Proverbs 3:5-6)”
God gives us specific instructions to trust in The Lord and not to lean on our own understanding…wow that’s like a slap in the face. Like God saying “wake up Jessi you don’t know as much as you think.”

So I guess if you’ve been questioning God lately you need to go back to the basics…Trust in The Lord. I have to do that on a regular basis.

P is for Pity Party

I have a tendency to throw myself a regular ok maybe daily pity party….anyone with me? When my kids are pushing all my buttons and I can’t take it anymore I start the party…I usually start out with something like if my kids would only obey…if they would just mind their own business (like not getting up in the other brothers face or knocking him over)….then I get into nap time and oh my goodness they yell and scream in their beds and I can’t even remember how many times my 3 year old has gotten out of his bed or peed in it durning one nap time….it could drive a woman to insanity….I tell myself other peoples kids act better then this why did I get the crazy and non listening kids…then it hits me…I don’t need to throw myself a party and need to come back to reality that everyone’s kids do this or at least do something (and if your kid is an angel I don’t wanna hear about it lol).
My kids have a natural sin nature. So instead of getting upset with them I have to realize that I need to teach them the proper way to play or treat their sibling/friend/cousin. It’s my job as the parent to live out Christ’s love to them and teach and train them up in a way that honors God. It’s not my job to pout about why everything is going wrong I need to leave that to God to handle and do my best with what I’ve been given…now I’m not saying that I’m never gonna have another pity party but I’m going to work hard at seeing the positive and making the best out of every situation….so if you see me or hear me having a pity party just remind me (gently) that I need to get off my butt and get back to life.

What about you? Do you have regular pity parties?

O is for Out of time

Seriously. I feel like as a mom with small kids that I spend my whole life taking care of one kids need and then next kids needs and then my husbands needs….I struggle with feeling like I’m all out of time for myself. Does anyone else feel that way? Well your not alone…I’m right there with ya sister…I as a mom I want to provide everything for my kids and my husband….I want them to have all their needs met. But getting from one meal to the next I don’t feel like I get to think…I feel like for me I’m completely out of time…so I’ve tried to find some time for me in all the craziness that I call my life…

usually I make sure to take some time for myself when my boys are napping and currently my 3 year old taking a nap is a hit or miss but none the less I still try and read a book or watch a little tv or take a nap myself.

I also take a hot bath sometimes after my kids go to bed to just be alone…because any mom knows that you don’t get to go the bathroom by yourself anymore…

And lastly on my hubby’s day off he watches the kids for the afternoon so that I can do whatever I would like to do (isn’t he a sweetheart!).

How do you give yourself a little bit of time?

M is for Me

I have a great tendency to be very selfish. I think it’s one of my biggest pitfalls…the way I get pulled away from God the fastest. I want to see what everyone is doing on Facebook before I do my devotions which usually means I eat into my time with God instead of putting God first at the beginning of my day.

I want to spend time reading My books, instead of reading to my boys. I don’t like chicken and dumplings so I never fix it for my husband (even though he loves it). Talk about selfish….as I looked over my last week there is one big thing I noticed…I put myself first before my family on a regular basis. I was actually kinda surprised at how much I put myself before others…I am a selfish person, and the whole time I was walking around thinking I’m a pretty good mom and wife and friend (can you guess what a close second Pride was on the list of daily sins).

So my goal for this next week is to focus more on others, and most importantly God then my husband and sons.

And I know this is a regular battle I’m going to have to fight but I have the most powerful person on the planet on my side to help me win, if I look to Him, and that is God. I know I will fail, but I also know there will be love and forgiveness when I turn to God and say I really missed it this time…it’s nice to know that Christ’s love for us is unconditional.

What are you biggest pitfalls and how do you plan to over come them?

L is for Late

My post is late because we have been celebrating my hubby’s birthday over here and well I wanted to share some of his gifts with you but if I posted on time then him receiving his gifts might be a little bit of a let down since I know he reads my blog. So there you go ๐Ÿ™‚ now onto the birthday events and gifts….

We have shared a lot of laughter since I’ve know him and we just celebrated his birthday. My hubby turns 30 today. I wanted to share a few of the things we did for his birthday and are still planning to do ๐Ÿ™‚

On Friday we celebrated his birthday with friends and family here and this was his invite for the party.

I even got a pic of my 3 boys right before the party…

Aren’t they cute!?

Part of Marc’s gift was this state art I made for him to put up in his office…

I’m pretty sure he is really excited about it ๐Ÿ™‚

And then lastly for his big 3-0 I’ve compiled 30 memories for him to get all throughout today (because today is his actual birthday)

Yes I know the first one on the pile is 3 that is because he already has gotten the first 2 memories

So there you go. This is how we celebrated (and are still celebrating) my hubby’s birthday.

And now you know why I had to post a little late…. Also be sure to check out the other blogs that I’m blogging through the alphabet with….

K is for Kids in the Kitchen

I really enjoy cooking but I’ve come to enjoy it even more now that my son comes to help me in the Kitchen. He loves to help me measure things for mixing up doughs or desserts. He also loves washing the veggies and then putting them into a bowl after I cut them up. Reece is my big helper in the kitchen. Do you have a kid that loves to help you in the kitchen?

Here are a few tips and tricks I’ve learned along the way…

1. Don’t worry too much about the mess – Reece always gets flour all over or when he is washing veggies for me he gets water everywhere it’s just part of having a kid help you…

20130918-095006.jpg

2. Prepare all your ingredients before hand – I try and at least have everything we will need set out so that I don’t have to leave Reece with the huge temptation to play in the mixed items or measure anything extra into the bowl ๐Ÿ™‚

3. Let them be kids (Reece is never in it to get it done and move on to the next thing but rather to enjoy what he is doing then and there)

4. Teach them along the way (counting how many scoops they just put in and how many ingredients you used)

5. Let them taste the finished product (Reece always loves to eat whatever he has made)

Do you have any other tips on kids helping in the kitchen?

I is for International

As you may know by now if you’ve been reading my blog is that I am a missionary in the Philippines. This means that we lead international lives. We live with two cultures our own culture as Americans and the culture we feel God has called us to the Philippines.

So I want share a few things that I love about living internationally and some things that I love about the Philippines and Filipinos.

I love the tropical climate of the Philippines. This is probably because I get cold really easily and I hate being cold. I love the sunshine and and warm weather all year round. You are probably wondering what the temps are like here well during the hot seasons it can get up in the 100s F and during the cool season it can get down to the 70s (brrr). Most of the year we live in the 80-90 range. I love it. The reason this is the temps is because the Philippines is a tropical country and it sits right near the equator.

I also love some of the foods here, so here’s a short list…

I love adobo
